Project Description

Golf Matchplay Capture & Analysis System

Even though this project is not specifically web design related, I feel it showcases my ability to architect a system, organise a team out in the field, and work under pressure. I was proud to manage the stats team as part of Paul McGinley’s backroom staff during his captaincy for the 2014 Ryder Cup. Over an 18-month period, I supervised various different assignments, but the project I’d like to concentrate on here started in October 2013, at the Seve Trophy in France. At that event, myself and developer Ben Grice of Logibase began architecting the ‘first of its kind’ golf matchplay capture and analysis system, and after 30 or more refinements over the following 12-months, the system was used to capture and synchronise data across devices in near real-time at the 2014 Ryder Cup. The event ended in a resounding success for both our stats team and the European Ryder Cup Team.

“John, Chris and Ben were the obvious choice due to our working and personal relationship, but most importantly their professionalism. Continued success in all your endeavours and thank you for being such an important part of our success at Gleneagles.”
Paul McGinley, 2014 Ryder Cup Captain
